At the time this was last updated, most international airlines allowed two checked bags per person and one carry-on, plus a purse or backpack. This is how I pack my bags. I don’t use everything on the list on every trip, but have found everything listed as necessary or at least useful for some occasions. Africa can be cold in the winter, so be sure to pack plenty of warm clothes and plan on layering. We usually start the day wearing shorts and T-shirts with fleece pants and windproof coat over them. By 10Am we are usually down to the shorts and T-shirts. A windproof jacket is a must, as is a wide-brim hat.
